Samara Weaving has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost in Marvel Studios' untitled X-Men movie, according to a Deadline report cited by GamesRadar+ and Polygon. The report states that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier met with "a number of candidates" before landing on Weaving earlier in the week the story broke. As of the reporting, neither Marvel nor Weaving had publicly commented on the casting.
Emma Frost, known in the comics as the White Queen, has telepathic and mind-control abilities along with superhuman strength, according to GamesRadar+. Polygon adds that the character can also transform her body into organic diamond. Frost debuted in Marvel Comics in 1980 and was originally a member of the Hellfire Club and a foe of the X-Men before eventually becoming one of the team's central figures and leaders. Because the X-Men have not yet been formed in the MCU, GamesRadar+ notes it's likely the film will focus on the team's formation at the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, with Frost possibly introduced as a villain rather than an ally.
Weaving is known for horror and action roles including Ready or Not, The Babysitter, Scream, Over Your Dead Body, and Carolina Caroline, as well as the drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Polygon notes she has a family connection to the MCU: her uncle, Hugo Weaving, played Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, though he did not return for Avengers: Infinity War. Emma Frost was previously portrayed in live action by January Jones in X-Men: First Class and has appeared in animated projects including X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men '97.
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed casting for the new X-Men film, but other names have circulated, including Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Cailee Spaeny as Rogue, and Charles Melton as Beast, according to Polygon. Fans are hoping for official confirmation at next month's D23 fan event. The film does not yet have a confirmed release date, though it is tentatively expected in 2028; Polygon notes Marvel has three films on its 2028 slate, with two slots occupied by Black Panther 3 and Ghost Rider. Separately, GamesRadar+ reports that Obsession star Inde Navarrette has expressed interest in playing Mystique in the same X-Men film after what may have been another meeting with director Jake Schreier. Navarrette told Variety she appreciated the character-driven approach Schreier brought to Thunderbolts and said Mystique "has always been super cool" when asked which character she'd like to play. Navarrette starred in Obsession, an indie horror film directed by Curry Barker that grossed over $400 million globally on a budget of $750,000; she played a character named Nikki in that film. GamesRadar+ notes that Weaving is described as the "second mutant" cast in the project, without specifying who was cast first.
