Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiered on July 31, becoming the fourth MCU Spider-Man film and surpassing Sam Raimi's trilogy as the longest-running Spider-Man franchise. Despite the milestone, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not announced a direct followup, leaving Spider-Man 5 unconfirmed. A brief post-credits scene, however, indicated that Spider-Man still has a role to play in the MCU going forward.
Tom Holland does not appear to be part of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, suggesting Peter Parker likely won't return until Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 17, 2027. That film adapts the 2015 Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić miniseries, in which superheroes are forced to fight on a planet called Battleworld. This aligns with Brand New Day's post-credits scene, where a Spidey Tracker app invented by Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) detects a Spider-Man sighting on a distant planet.
Secret Wars is expected to connect multiple universes, including those of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. The original comic storyline introduced the alternate-universe Spider-Man Miles Morales, who remained after the multiverse was reestablished and was mentored by Peter Parker. Miles has become a popular character through an animated film trilogy that began with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, but he has not yet appeared in live action. Marvel may use Secret Wars to pass the torch from Parker to Morales.
Tom Holland has said that succession plans for the character have been in the works for five years, and that he would like to help bring Miles Morales to the screen, mentoring him the way Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark mentored Peter Parker. Separately, producers of Brand New Day have said there is still hope Peter could have one last adventure involving Venom before exiting the role.
On the release side, Sony is putting out the animated film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on June 18, 2027, and an animated Venom movie directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein is also in development but still years away. Marvel's slate through 2029, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, includes Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2, and The Fantastic Four 2, but no new Spider-Man title. Given that four and a half years passed between Spider-Man: No Way Home and Brand New Day, a full torch-passing to a new Spider-Man may not arrive until around 2030.
