Spider-Man: Brand New Day is off to a record-breaking start at the box office. According to Variety, the film brought in $72 million across its Wednesday and Thursday preview screenings, surpassing the previous preview record of $60 million set by Avengers: Endgame.
Projections for the film's full opening weekend vary. Variety estimates the film could earn between $260 million and $280 million domestically, which would make it the second-biggest opening weekend ever, trailing only Endgame but surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home. Other estimates place the opening even higher, at over $300 million. Sony, however, has offered a more conservative estimate of $190 million to $195 million. International estimates range between $275 million and $300 million.
The film picks up after the events of No Way Home, following an isolated Peter Parker as he faces an unseen enemy while struggling with a mysterious illness that amplifies his powers.
Brand New Day has reportedly been well received by both fans and critics. A review from GamesRadar+ gave the film four stars, describing it as taking Spider-Man "back to web-slinging basics" and calling it a blast with personal stakes matching its expanded scale, adding that it may be the best film of the Multiverse Saga so far.
