A new game announced for Steam, called Stray Dog: nobody cares, has generated buzz online for its unusual premise: playing as a sword-wielding dog in a soulslike action game. The title comes from indie developer Parry Frames Studio, according to GamesRadar+.
Per the game's Steam description, cited by Kotaku, the story follows a stray dog saved by a 'disgraced knight' who then sets out to rescue its captured master after being 'scorned by all as useless roadside trash.' The dog carries its rescuer's 'frayed sword' in its jaws throughout the journey. The game's announcement explicitly names Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as its inspiration, according to Kotaku, and promises features including stealth kills, precise parries, and brutal boss fights. GamesRadar+ additionally reported that custom levels are planned.
Online reaction has centered heavily on comparisons to Great Grey Wolf Sif, the Dark Souls boss who guards the grave of Artorias the Abysswalker while wielding an oversized greatsword. GamesRadar+ noted that although Stray Dog is not officially affiliated with Dark Souls or FromSoftware, fans have widely dubbed the concept a 'Sif origin story,' with some nicknaming the game 'Bark Souls.'
Kotaku likewise highlighted the enthusiastic social media response, noting that fans praised the idea of a 'grimdark' dog protagonist reminiscent of Sif or Okami. Both outlets described widespread excitement across social platforms, including numerous posts expressing eagerness to play the game.
As of the announcement, no release date or window has been given for Stray Dog: nobody cares, according to both Kotaku and GamesRadar+.
