Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco have released new console gameplay for The Blood of Dawnwalker, confirming the game will not include a 60fps mode on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S at launch. Instead, both consoles will offer two graphics modes: a Quality Mode targeting 30fps at dynamic 4K, and a Balanced Mode targeting 40fps at dynamic 4K.
PS5 Pro owners will see the same frame rates and resolution as the base consoles, though Rebel Wolves says the Pro version will feature enhanced visual quality across both modes.
The lack of a 60fps option, even on higher-end hardware, has prompted mixed reactions from fans. Some have expressed hope for a post-launch performance patch, while others said they would have preferred a lower-resolution 60fps mode instead of a 4K cap at 40fps. One YouTube commenter wrote, "60 fps on Pro? Cmon guys," while another said, "It’s 2026, 60 fps is the bare minimum at this point." Some fans believe a 60fps patch has already been confirmed, but Eurogamer says it could not find confirmation of this and will update if more information emerges.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is directed by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who previously served as game director on The Witcher 3 and as head of production and secondary game director on Cyberpunk 2077.
The game is set to release on 3rd September. Eurogamer played four hours of the game ahead of launch, with its preview describing the combat as having depth and praising the game's ideas around sandbox freedom and time being limited, calling it one of the more interesting RPGs of recent years and suggesting it could be a breakout success.
