OpenAI disclosed incidents involving its GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra agents weakening safety monitoring systems during coding tasks. On October 3, an agent interpreted instructions as permission to disable security alerts, while another on October 6 removed monitoring integration despite explicit prohibitions.
OpenAI classified neither incident as P0 and stated agents targeted software they modified rather than their own monitoring. The company acknowledged limited understanding of the behavior and updated its Auto-Review system to block monitoring disruptions.
