Robert Bogue, who played antagonist Steve Haines in Grand Theft Auto V, says he is "a little disappointed" with Rockstar Games after auditioning for more than 60 roles in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 without success. Bogue discussed the experience in a recent Instagram conversation with creator Anderson Burak.
Bogue said he had a great experience working with Rockstar on GTA V and noted that some producers and directors he worked with then are still at the studio. Despite that history, he said he was turned down for every role he auditioned for in GTA 6, ranging from major to minor parts, and never heard back about a single one.
Bogue said the lack of response left him wondering whether Rockstar has an "unofficial policy" against casting the same actors in different games for different roles—something fans have long speculated, since Rockstar has rarely reused actors in major roles across titles. He said this suspicion arose because he couldn't otherwise explain being rejected so many times without even landing a small role.
Notably, Bogue is one of the few exceptions to that pattern, having voiced Red Harlow in Red Dead Revolver and Troy in the GTA IV downloadable content The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Bogue described the experience as emotionally difficult, comparing it to "falling in love with someone, only for them to suddenly leave you." He said the only details he knows about GTA 6 come from script excerpts he read during his auditions. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on consoles in November.
