Arrowhead Game Studios confirmed the shift from GameGuard to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), stating GameGuard "wasn't as effective as it could have been" in safeguarding gameplay integrity. The studio emphasized EAC's adoption across over 200 games as a more reliable solution.

The transition requires updates for non-malicious mods, particularly cosmetic ones, to function with EAC. Arrowhead acknowledged modders' contributions but stated some modifications may no longer work if they create unfair advantages or disrupt gameplay for others.
