Nintendo has announced two Direct presentations airing on consecutive days next week, according to an update on the Nintendo Today app. The first, a dedicated The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, will air on September 8 at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. BST and run about 30 minutes. Nintendo says it will "deliver a variety of The Legend of Zelda related information" during the stream.
The following day, September 9, a standard Nintendo Direct will air at the same time slot and last around 45 minutes, focusing specifically on Nintendo Switch 2 games launching this winter. That broadcast will be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live stream lasting roughly 110 minutes, featuring gameplay from titles shown in the Direct. Eurogamer notes that running two full Directs back-to-back, followed by an extended Treehouse stream, is unprecedented for Nintendo.
The Zelda-focused Direct is widely expected to center on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2, which was confirmed in June after rumors first surfaced in March, but for which few details—including a release date or gameplay footage—have been shared publicly. Polygon reports that a Swiss retailer previously known for leaking Switch 2 release dates listed Ocarina of Time's release as December 1, 2026, though this has not been officially confirmed. Outlets also speculate the Direct could include a first trailer for the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda film, starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, which Kotaku reports is set to premiere April 30.
The Legend of Zelda franchise marked its 40th anniversary in early 2026, and Polygon notes Nintendo has already released a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller as part of the celebration. GamesRadar+ points out that last year's Mario 40th anniversary segment was folded into a broader Direct, whereas Zelda is getting an entire dedicated presentation this time. Some outlets also floated additional possibilities for the Zelda stream, including potential ports of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, though these remain speculative.
For the general Direct on September 9, outlets note that little is confirmed beyond its focus on winter Switch 2 releases. GamesRadar+ mentions ongoing rumors of a new Metroid game and a new 3D Mario title as possible content, while Kotaku suggests it would be surprising to see news of the next mainline Zelda game so soon after Tears of the Kingdom, though it notes such timelines have varied in the past. Both Directs will stream on Nintendo's YouTube and Twitch channels.
