RuneScape Reignited, a new game mode designed to let players start fresh, was canceled less than two weeks after its announcement, according to IGN. The decision followed widespread player criticism, with Jagex stating the move aimed to protect the existing community while attracting new players.
Creative director Mod Ryan attributed the cancellation to player feedback, referencing past mistakes like the 2012 Evolution of Combat update that split the player base. "We received a ton of different perspectives from all of you, and we truly appreciate everyone sharing their views," Ryan said in a blog post. "It is super important to us because the last time we didn't listen to player feedback, combat changed forever."
Despite the cancellation, Jagex will launch a 10-day free trial for RuneScape starting December 2, allowing new or inactive players to access members-only content. The company also plans to release the Adventure Guide and Remastered Journey updates, alongside ongoing development for 2027. "The future of RuneScape is still extremely bright," Ryan said.
