Lexar has listed a new 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-7200 CL38 memory kit in China, part of its second-generation Thor RGB series, priced at 3,999 yuan (about $592). The kit features a sandblasted aluminum heat spreader, thermal pads, and eight RGB LEDs, and is rated for 38-48-48-86 timings at 1.40V. It supports both Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO profiles.

Lexar says the modules use "carefully selected" domestically produced DRAM but has not named the actual manufacturer. Both Tom's Hardware and TechPowerUp report that the chips are widely assumed to come from CXMT (ChangXin Memory Technologies), though this remains unconfirmed.

Lexar has published a compatibility list covering 43 motherboards, including 30 Asus and 13 MSI models across Intel Z890, Intel B860, and AMD B850 platforms. The list also includes boards tested for a faster 32GB DDR5-7600 CL38 variant. Notably, AMD's X870 and previous-generation motherboards are absent from the list, which Tom's Hardware calls "a bit odd," though it says the kit should still work on most untested DDR5 boards.

The emergence of CXMT-made DDR5 chips earlier this year had raised hopes of easing supply constraints and lowering memory prices. Other companies have already moved toward CXMT-based memory: Corsair began using CXMT DDR5 chips in select kits, including its Vengeance lineup, while HP and Dell have started qualifying CXMT DRAM, and Acer and Asus have reportedly asked Chinese manufacturing partners to source locally made memory chips.

Despite this, Tom's Hardware notes that Lexar's new kit is priced in line with, or only slightly below, comparable 32GB DDR5-7200 kits currently sold in the U.S. from brands like G.Skill, Corsair, and Kingston, which range from about $585 to $700. This suggests little evidence so far that CXMT-based memory is meaningfully lowering prices.

TechPowerUp adds that the kit is intended specifically for the mainland Chinese market, with no mention of global availability, and that Lexar tested the modules only on select Asus and MSI boards, though additional compatibility is expected.
