Qualcomm officially revealed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, both built on a 2nm process. The Extreme variant includes a new packaging technology and support for 30B-parameter on-device AI models. The CPU features custom Oryon cores with two 5.00GHz Prime cores and six Performance cores, delivering 13% higher CPU performance and 37% better efficiency compared to the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6’s GPU, Adreno Neural Fusion, includes AI matrix cores for improved frame rates and power efficiency, with 44% higher GPU performance and 40% better efficiency. The Hexagon NPU sees a 35% performance boost and 50% larger shared memory, enabling 30B+ parameter models. Both chipsets support 8K video recording at 60fps and 4K slow-motion at 240fps, with the Extreme variant adding APV codec support and hardware VVC (H.266) decoding.
Qualcomm emphasized a dual-platform strategy, targeting broader adoption of agentic AI through the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Extreme variant caters to high-end devices. Both support the X105 5G modem, Wi-Fi 8, and Bluetooth 6.0, with the Extreme variant featuring 18MB of dedicated Adreno High-Performance Memory. OEMs like Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi have committed to using the chipsets in upcoming flagship devices.
