Asa Germann, best known for playing Sam Riordan in Amazon Prime Video's The Boys spin-off Gen V, has landed the role of Angel (Warren Worthington III) in Marvel's upcoming X-Men movie. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news; Polygon notes that as of the report, Germann was "in final talks" for the part, while GamesRadar+ describes him as having already been cast.
According to both outlets, Germann had originally auditioned for the role of Cyclops/Scott Summers, but that part ultimately went to Heartstopper star Kit Connor. Germann is also known for a supporting role in Scream 7, per Polygon. GamesRadar+ highlights his work in Gen V, where his character Sam was kidnapped and experimented on by the university running the show as part of a plot to create a virus capable of killing all Supes, calling his performance vulnerable and psychologically complex.
Angel, whose mutation gives him large white wings and the ability to fly, is one of the X-Men's original members alongside Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman and Beast, according to Polygon. The character made his big-screen debut in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, played by Ben Foster, where his mutation drove his father to develop a "mutant cure" central to that film's plot. GamesRadar+ notes the character was introduced on-screen as a child cutting off his own wings. A darker version of Angel, transformed into Archangel, later appeared in X-Men: Apocalypse, played by Ben Hardy.
The new X-Men film, directed by Jake Schreier, is building out its cast following casting announcements made at Disney's D23 convention. Confirmed cast members include Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, who made her MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Polygon also lists Inde Navarrette as Rogue among the cast.
It remains unclear whether other original X-Men members, such as Iceman and Beast, will be included in the reboot, according to Polygon. X-Men is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
