Ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Polygon published a series of videos covering the film, including one in which director Destin Daniel Cretton discussed drawing inspiration from video games and wingsuit fliers to reimagine Spider-Man on screen. Other videos featured stars Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Jacob Batalon answering questions about the movie, while a separate video focused on Holland's ability to keep Marvel Cinematic Universe secrets, posing the question of which Marvel character he had pushed to include in the film.
One Polygon video specifically addressed co-star Sadie Sink, noting that she was unable to say anything about her involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the time.
That silence has since ended. According to GamesRadar+, Sink confirmed in an interview with Variety that she is playing Jean Grey in the MCU, appearing in director Jake Schreier's upcoming X-Men film. Sink described early conversations about the character, saying that what makes X-Men characters compelling is that they are flawed and have sometimes done bad things, which makes for more complex heroes. She said Jean's struggle will be important to the character's future.
Despite these conversations with her director, Sink said she still does not know what comes next for Jean Grey following the character's appearance on a bus at the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She emphasized that when she says she doesn't know, she genuinely does not know.
GamesRadar+ also reported that Sink will be joined in the MCU by fellow X-Men cast members Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Cyclops. The X-Men film is currently undated, with Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for release on December 18 and Secret Wars to follow in 2027.
