Framework, known for making modular and repairable laptops, has been publicly communicating with customers throughout an ongoing RAM price crisis. The company's Framework 13 Pro, which uses the LPCAMM2 memory standard, was previously affected when Framework had to downgrade some customer orders from 64GB to 32GB of RAM because it could not obtain supplies at the original prices.

Framework recently said it found a "limited quantity of Micron 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 memory modules at lower cost." As a result, the company is lowering prices for customers who pre-ordered the Framework 13 Pro and issuing refunds to customers whose laptops had already shipped.

This has been contrasted with Nintendo's response to a separate situation involving tariffs. Nintendo raised prices on the Switch 2 by $50, citing the memory market, and had previously raised prices on the original Switch in 2025 due to tariffs that were later declared illegal. After Nintendo and other companies received refunds from the US government tied to those tariffs, Nintendo did not lower console prices or issue refunds to customers. Instead, it launched a "customer appreciation sale" in the US offering 30 percent off dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles, select physical games, downloadable content, and apparel, citing tariff-related refunds as the reason for the promotion. The sale does not include the game consoles whose prices were affected by the tariffs and RAM costs.

Separately, Framework has ended its One Key Module program, a project announced alongside the Laptop 16 2nd-gen that aimed to let developers design their own keyboard layouts using parts and schematics that could be assembled by tinkerers or turned into commercial products. Framework said that despite efforts from its engineering and supply chain teams along with partner Lite-On, it could not bring material, assembly costs, and manufacturing yield to a level that made the product economically viable, with per-key costs resulting in breakeven pricing too high for high-volume sales.

Framework also said it had difficulty integrating the One Key Module reliably into keyboard designs given the slim form factor of its laptops, and that even expert DIYers and electronics tinkerers in its Developer Program had trouble reliably assembling the module, as some parts were too fragile for easy handling. Framework noted that design changes that could meaningfully improve assembly would require exceeding the size constraints of the Framework Laptop 16. A number of projects were built using the module, including pseudo-split and true split ergonomic keyboards, macro columns, and a control deck for fighting games. Framework said it still plans to launch a ZMK-powered Wireless Keyboard Control Board for developers and continues to provide documentation for its QMK fork on GitHub.
