Framework has announced a reduction in memory pricing for its Laptop 13 Pro, reversing part of a controversial price increase from July. The company says its Supply Chain team was able to secure a limited quantity of Micron 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 memory modules at a lower cost, and is passing those savings on to customers.
The move follows a July update in which Framework nearly doubled prices for 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 memory configurations due to supplier cost increases tied to a broader DRAM shortage. According to Framework, the new prices remain above the original pre-order launch baseline but are lower than the pricing set after July's increase.
The lower pricing applies to orders that have already shipped, as well as pending pre-orders through Batch 10. Customers who already paid the higher price on shipped orders are automatically receiving refunds for the difference. Pending pre-orders with memory configured at the higher price are being automatically adjusted downward, and customers can also edit their pre-order configuration or use a contact form to swap memory on already-shipped DIY Edition units, with free return shipping for the original module.
Framework says this pricing is not guaranteed to last, since only a limited quantity of the cheaper modules was secured. Availability is being handled first-come, first-served for customers through Batch 10; if more inventory becomes available, Framework says it will extend the lower pricing to later batches and then to new pre-orders. As of the report, a 32GB LPCAMM2 module was listed at $800 and a 64GB module at $1,600 on Framework's U.S. store, and new orders placed now should not expect the same reduced pricing applied to earlier batches.
Alongside the memory update, Framework also reported that it had run out of motherboards with Intel Core Ultra X9 388H CPUs but has since received a new batch from Intel at a higher cost, meaning future Core Ultra X9 pre-orders will carry a higher price. Existing Core Ultra X9 pre-orders are unaffected by this change, and Framework is giving existing pre-order holders through Batch 10 priority access to the new Core Ultra X9 batch.
LPCAMM2 memory is used in the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 version of the Framework 13 Pro, while other models, such as those with AMD Ryzen AI 300 CPUs, use SO-DIMMs instead. Reports on Reddit's r/Framework community indicate some users have already received partial refunds after Framework reached out via email offering the option to upgrade memory on their pre-order.
