Dungeons & Dragons has a long history of publishing rules for other settings, including Conan adventures in 1984, Lankhmar – City of Adventure in 1985, and stats for Michael Moorcock's Elric stories and H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos in the 1980 printing of Deities & Demigods. It also previously collaborated with Blizzard on a line of Diablo supplements tied to the release of Diablo 2.

Given this history, and weekend leaks hinting at the news, it was not entirely surprising that the first official D&D crossover book in the Universes Beyond line — a name borrowed from Magic: The Gathering, where crossovers have been significant earners — would focus on World of Warcraft.

The announcement was formalized at this year's Gen Con during a D&D Vision Keynote 2027 presented by Theo Solomon, who played Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3.

The project will take the form of a 256-page hardcover book containing rules for 11 new species, 9 subclasses (6 new and 3 updated versions of existing characters), more than 50 new monsters, more than 60 new spells, 23 factions, 7 dungeons, and 26 magic items including artifacts. It will also include stat blocks for various popular characters from across Azeroth.

Preorders for the book open on July 30. It will be available in early access starting November 3, with wide release following on November 17.
