Tim Curry has died at the age of 80, leaving behind a career spanning movies, television, and videogames. Among his many roles, Curry voiced Gabriel Knight, Premier Anatoly Cherdenko in Red Alert 3, Arl Howe in Dragon Age: Origins, and the villainous Doviculus in Double Fine's Brütal Legend.
To honor his passing, Double Fine has made Brütal Legend available for free on itch for 666 minutes. The game can be downloaded immediately or claimed for later download during that window.
Doviculus, Emperor of the Tainted Coil, is the main antagonist of Brütal Legend and was originally intended to be voiced by heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio before Curry was cast. Double Fine's Tim Schafer told USA Today that Curry 'just has the perfect voice' for the role, explaining that when the team described the character as someone who might scream in pain or squeal with delight when hit with an axe, Curry laughed and said it was 'Perfect for me.'
This is not the first time Double Fine has offered the game for free in tribute to someone connected to Brütal Legend. The studio previously did the same for Ozzy Osbourne, who has a cameo in the game as the Guardian of Metal shopkeeper, also making it available for 666 minutes at that time.
