A Nintendo Direct for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave delivered a wave of new details about the upcoming Switch 2 strategy game, according to Kotaku, GamesRadar+, and Polygon. The game had been pitched as a story following four heroes—Cai, Dietrich, Leda, and Theodora—competing in a tournament called the Heroic Games, but the Direct revealed a much larger structure. Players will be able to switch between all four heroes' stories at will from a location called the Pale Raven's Perch, playing their paths in parallel rather than replaying the game from scratch for each one, as Kotaku and Polygon both note.

The Direct also confirmed that a mysterious white-haired character glimpsed in prior trailers and box art is named Eshmel and is, in the narrator's words, "the story's true protagonist," according to GamesRadar+. Per Kotaku, Polygon, and GamesRadar+, the story includes a five-year time jump after the Heroic Games, during which the world is threatened by a demon god named Balor. The god Sothis calls on Eshmel to fight Balor, and Eshmel can use the time goddess Fortuna to travel back and change the fates of the four heroes so they can join the fight. Polygon notes this mirrors Fire Emblem: Awakening's time-travel plot, but flips it so the player character is the one traveling through time, and reports that facing Balor alone is possible, though difficult, suggesting some flexibility in how the endgame can be approached.

One of the most talked-about reveals, according to Kotaku and Polygon, was the addition of firearms as a weapon type for the first time in franchise history. A character named Anatolia was shown wielding a pistol-like weapon called a "Salamander," which fires an energy blast; Polygon reports the narrator described these as "gauntlets that look like firearms." Kotaku and Polygon both point out that despite guns' ranged appearance, they're categorized as gauntlets, a traditionally melee weapon type in Fire Emblem that boosts evasion. It remains unknown whether more firearm types will be added beyond the Salamander, per Polygon.

GamesRadar+ separately reported that the Direct revealed the return of Seteth, a character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, now appearing as a Dragoon class unit riding a dragon. Fans reacted to his new look, which features bright yellow hair with his natural green eyebrows and green roots still visible, widely mocked online as a bad dye job. GamesRadar+ notes that because Seteth is a long-lived Nabatean character in Three Houses lore, his appearance doesn't clarify whether Fortune's Weave takes place before or after that game.

The Direct also covered new gameplay systems, including tiered class progression (Beginner, Specialty, and Advanced) covering weapon types like swords, spears, axes, gauntlets, bows, and magic, plus advanced classes such as Dragoons and Elephant Riders, according to Kotaku and Polygon. Characters can use Combat Arts at the cost of weapon durability, while the four main protagonists have unique Blaze Arts that consume their life bars, per Kotaku's breakdown.

Sources gave differing release dates for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave: Kotaku reported a September 12 release, while Polygon reported September 17, both for Nintendo Switch 2.
