Rockstar Games and Netflix aired an extended gameplay look at Grand Theft Auto 6 that became the biggest gaming stream of 2026 so far, according to Streams Charts data cited by Eurogamer. Reaction streams peaked at 3,970,738 viewers across platforms, with Twitch carrying the largest share of hours watched, followed by YouTube and Kick. Spanish streamer IlloJuan led individual channels with 233,520 peak viewers. Heavy demand caused technical issues on Netflix and Twitch, locking some viewers out for 40-50 minutes, and Cloudflare reported major traffic spikes, including a 172% worldwide jump on Rockstar's own website.
With quality concerns largely addressed by the reveal, Rockstar North co-lead Rob Nelson told Famitsu, as translated by GamesRadar+, that the studio is now focused on reassuring fans about timing: 'It was our hope that people wouldn't be worried about the quality [after watching the extended look]. We're really pleased. Also, it will be released on time.' The game has already been delayed twice, first from 2025 to 2026, then six months from May 26 to November 19, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick and Nelson have both maintained confidence in the November 19 date.
New details also emerged about the game's design. PC Gamer reported that Rockstar considered giving GTA 6 four playable protagonists before settling on two, Jason and Lucia, because the studio worried about 'diluting the amount of player time with each' character and wanted players to feel connected to both. The game's world is reportedly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map, according to Polygon, and features an optional romance system between the two leads. Separately, Kotaku noted that Rockstar reused assets from Red Dead Redemption 2 to create an in-game TV commercial for a fictional sandwich chain, continuing a tradition of borrowing footage from older titles for in-game media dating back to Grand Theft Auto IV.
The reveal also expanded the confirmed soundtrack, according to Kotaku, including Phil Collins' 'Against All Odds' — following his earlier in-game cameo performing 'In the Air Tonight' in Vice City Stories — alongside tracks from Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Sexyy Red, Cliff Richard, Birdman and Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, and others spanning yacht rock, stadium anthems, and contemporary R&B.
Some uncertainty remains. Polygon reported that Rockstar has not confirmed whether GTA 6 will include an online component, despite GTA Online reportedly still earning about $1.3 million per day between September 2025 and April 2026 according to leaked financial data; the outlet outlined three possible scenarios, from an all-new online mode to no crossover at all, but noted previews from IGN and other outlets have said nothing on the subject. GamesRadar+ separately referenced Rockstar's statement that GTA 6 will not include microtransactions or generative AI at launch. Meanwhile, Eurogamer noted that despite the largely positive reception, the reveal's hype was tempered by ongoing employment tribunals involving former Rockstar North employees who allege union-busting after being fired.
