Rockstar Games has announced that a new preview of Grand Theft Auto VI, titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look," will premiere exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 3:00 PM Eastern. The footage will later appear on Rockstar's YouTube channel and official website; PCWorld describes this as happening "a few hours later," while Wccftech specifies a 9:00 PM Eastern release, six hours after the Netflix debut.
This marks the first major new video presentation for GTA VI since the second trailer was released in May 2025, and it is expected to offer an early look at actual gameplay. Neither Rockstar nor Netflix have detailed the content of the presentation, but its title suggests it will introduce core gameplay elements—something no previous trailer has shown. Earlier trailers, released in December 2023 and May 2025, focused on tone, characters, and setting rather than gameplay, and drew close to 300 million and 200 million views, respectively.
GTA VI was originally targeted for a 2025 release before Rockstar pushed the date back twice, first to May 26, 2026, and then to November 19, 2026, citing the need for additional development time to meet the series' quality standards. The game is set for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no PC release date yet announced. Take-Two Interactive has called the Netflix arrangement its first partnership of this kind and a "groundbreaking partnership," with CEO Strauss Zelnick describing Netflix as both a marketing and distribution partner, though he declined to discuss commercial terms.
During Take-Two's Q1 FY2027 earnings call, Zelnick said preorder demand for GTA VI has been "unprecedented and astonishing and astronomical," though he declined to share specific sales figures, calling the company's stance "cautiously optimistic" rather than a victory lap. Take-Two also confirmed that the physical retail edition of GTA VI will not include a disc, instead using a boxed download code, continuing the industry's shift toward digital distribution. Zelnick noted that over 90% of Take-Two's business is already digital and said discs "don't really make sense" for a game like this, while declining to comment on Sony's separate decision to stop manufacturing PlayStation discs starting in 2028.
Take-Two is forecasting fiscal 2027 net bookings of $8 billion to $8.2 billion, with GTA VI expected to be one of the largest contributors alongside NBA 2K, Zynga's mobile titles, and WWE 2K. The company noted that Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 230 million units to date, and that recurrent consumer spending across the GTA series grew 3% during the quarter. GTA Online, now 13 years old, continues to see strong engagement, aided by the July 14 Quartz Center Heist update, which Take-Two said helped bring back lapsed players ahead of GTA VI's launch.
