Commodore has announced the Commodore 77, a special edition of its Commodore 64 Ultimate computer made in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and inspired by the aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077. The device is available for pre-order now at commodore.net for $377 and is set to begin shipping in early 2027. Commodore describes it as the first franchise hardware partnership in the company's 68-year history.
The Commodore 77 features a brushed metal plate, a turquoise glow, graffiti-style tags, and a smoked gray translucent case. It ships with a custom Cyberpunk 2077-themed Commodore 77 BASIC 2.0 boot screen, new menu colors, a custom neon power light, stickers, pins, collectible themed packaging, and a spiral-bound user guide containing lore and Cyberpunk 2077-themed type-in BASIC programs.
A key exclusive is a 2MB demo cartridge, designed to resemble the "shards" from Cyberpunk 2077, dubbed the "Arasaka" cartridge. The non-interactive demo was created by the long-running Polish C64 demo group Arise, with an original soundtrack by chiptune artist LukHash, who previously recorded his 2021 album CyberChip entirely on original Commodore 64 hardware. The demo uses 24 channels of stereo SID chip music, and LEDs in the machine's base light up and move in time with the audio, visible through the translucent case.
On the hardware side, the Commodore 77 replaces the AMD Xilinx Artix-7 XC7A50T processor used in the standard Commodore 64 Ultimate with the more powerful Artix-7 XC7A100T, which offers twice the logic and twice the block RAM, along with additional I/O. Commodore's press materials say the system will achieve speeds of 77 MHz, compared to the original Commodore 64's 1 MHz processor, though Tom's Hardware noted that this is the only detail provided about how the added processing power will be used. Like earlier Ultimate models, the Commodore 77 is an FPGA-powered recreation of the original Commodore 64 and remains compatible with more than 10,000 existing Commodore 64 games and peripherals.
Peri Fractic, President, CEO, and Chief Product Officer of Commodore, said the collaboration grew out of conversations with CD Projekt Red's Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, whom he learned was a lifelong Commodore 64 fan. Patrick Mills, Franchise Content Strategy Lead at CD Projekt Red, said the tactile, chunky tech style of Cyberpunk 2077 made the Commodore 77 feel like a device pulled directly from the game's world, and that the demo brings a piece of Night City to the long-running C64 demo scene.
Tom's Hardware also noted that, separately, Commodore released the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection for PC and consoles this week in partnership with Antstream Arcade and Team17, featuring six classic Amiga titles now available to wishlist on Steam.
