On October 12, 2026, Universal Pictures shared the first official look at the Miami Vice reboot, showcasing Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as James 'Sonny' Crockett. The images were released to mark the start of production for the film, which is scheduled for a May 19, 2028, premiere.
The reboot, titled 'Miami Vice '85,' is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed Top Gun: Maverick. The film's script is written by Dan Gilroy, and it will follow the original 1980s television series' aesthetic, focusing on 'the glamour and corruption of mid-80's Miami.'
Jordan and Butler will join a supporting cast including John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins, and others. The project was first announced in April 2026, with production described as 'fully underway' in the latest reports.
