Footage from EA Motive's long-in-development Iron Man game leaked online via ResetEra, showing about two and a half minutes of gameplay and cutscenes from what was labeled an 'Aug26 test' build. The clip depicted Tony Stark flying around an open-world city that appears to be New York, fighting enemies on the ground and in the air, and visiting a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier drifting through the sky. It also showed what looks like a suit customization system and confirmed the presence of characters including Pepper Potts, Obadiah Stane, and Madame Masque.
EA responded to the leak through the game's official X account, writing: 'Well, that didn't go as planned. But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we're ready.' The statement confirmed the footage was real but gave no indication of when more official information might arrive.
The leaked build reportedly included placeholder text for a release window and rough visual elements like low-resolution textures and unfinished cutscenes, suggesting the footage may not reflect the game's current state of progress. Sources note that Stark's in-game appearance does not seem to be modeled after Robert Downey Jr., though the game borrows stylistic elements from the Marvel films, such as hologram-ringed close-ups of his face.
Marvel's Iron Man was first announced by EA in 2022 and has had a largely silent and, according to one account, rocky development process since. A separate EA superhero project, a Black Panther game, was reportedly cancelled. Coincidentally, footage from a different, much earlier Iron Man game—reportedly in development around 2012 at Just Cause studio Avalanche—also leaked this week.
Commentators drew comparisons to other high-profile game leaks, including Insomniac Games' Wolverine footage that leaked in 2023 well before that game's eventual reveal, and the leaks that preceded GTA 6's official gameplay debut. Such leaks are described as being out of developers' control and not necessarily indicative of how close a game is to release. Separately, EA employees have reportedly been bracing for potential cuts following the company's recent buyout, though the Iron Man project appears unaffected for now.
