Footage said to be from a build of EA Motive's Iron Man game surfaced online this week, first appearing on ResetEra before spreading to the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit and other social platforms. The clip runs about two and a half minutes and is watermarked as an "Aug26 test," suggesting it was created recently. Several outlets, including Kotaku, Rock Paper Shotgun, GamesRadar+ and Eurogamer, said they had reached out to EA for comment. Kotaku later reported that EA responded by directing it to a post from an X account, @PlayIronManGame, which said, "Well, that didn't go as planned. But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we're ready," confirming the footage's legitimacy.
The leaked video shows Iron Man flying at speed using his jet boots, moving fluidly between aerial travel and on-foot combat. Combat includes smashing and throwing enemies, laser and chest-beam attacks, missiles, and other gadgets. There are also unfinished cutscenes, including a close-up shot of a HUD crawling over Tony Stark's face. A scene appears to show Stark customizing his suit on some kind of panel or circuit-board layout, with the armor reconfiguring around him — a system Polygon compared to Resident Evil's inventory management and Dead Space's node-based upgrades.
Sources differ slightly on setting: Kotaku and Rock Paper Shotgun said the city shown appeared to be Chicago, and Polygon said the game seems to be set primarily in Chicago rather than New York, but GamesRadar+ described the flying sequences as taking place in New York City. Multiple outlets agreed the footage also includes a Japanese-style location with a bamboo forest and a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Familiar characters appear throughout, including Pepper Potts and James "Rhodey" Rhodes. Polygon additionally identified what looked like Obadiah Stane, Henry Pym, Madame Masque, Iron Monger, Ultron, and Yellowjacket, noting the character designs lean closer to their comic-book appearances than their MCU counterparts. The footage also lists joke placeholder credits naming Hulk as "world director" and Ultron as "executive producer." No release date is given; a "Release Window" text prompt appears without any actual date filled in.
EA Motive, the studio behind the Dead Space remake and a co-developer on Battlefield 6, announced its Iron Man project in partnership with Marvel Games in 2022 as part of a planned slate of EA superhero games. Since then, EA canceled a separate Black Panther game and shut down its developer, Cliffhanger Games, and the Iron Man project had otherwise gone quiet. Rock Paper Shotgun also noted that EA was recently acquired by a Saudi-led consortium involving Jared Kushner, adding roughly $18 billion in debt, and said this raised questions — described as speculation — about the project's future before the leak surfaced.
This is not the only Iron Man leak this week: footage from Avalanche Studios' unrelated, canceled Iron Man game from around 2012, reportedly pulled from a PS3 devkit, also leaked separately. GamesRadar+ said the timing of both leaks in the same week appears to be coincidental. Polygon speculated that a 2027 release for EA Motive's game seems plausible given the timing of upcoming Avengers films, though Iron Man himself is not expected to appear in those movies.
