At a PAX West panel, Atlus revealed a sizzle reel for Kanji Tatsumi and confirmed that Daman Mills will voice the character in Persona 4 Revival, replacing Troy Baker and Matt Mercer, who previously portrayed the role. Mills is known as the current voice of Frieza in the Dragon Ball franchise and has also voiced characters in Borderlands 3, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Yakuza Kiwami 3. He has prior experience with Atlus, having voiced Aogami in Shin Megami Tensei 5, Madam Ginko in Soul Hackers 2, Takaya Sakaki in Persona 3 Reload, and Auch in Unicorn Overlord.
Kanji is considered an important character to get right, given his history with prominent past voice actors and his status as an early video game example of exploring gender identity. Atlus says the remake will address controversy around how other characters, such as Yosuke, treat Kanji in the original game. During the panel, Mills described Kanji as having both masculine and feminine traits that lead to insecurities, saying the character is afraid because his identity isn't seen as a social norm, but that the story shows him gradually progressing through those struggles.
Persona 4 Revival is set for release on PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Feb. 18, 2027, and will be available on Game Pass from day one.
Separately, in interviews with GamesRadar+ at Gamescom 2026, series producer Kazuhisa Wada explained the broader approach behind the remake. Unlike Persona 3 Reload, which remade the base version of Persona 3 rather than the expanded release (with content like the Episode Aegis arc added later as an expansion), Persona 4 Revival is built directly from Persona 4 Golden, the expanded PS Vita version. Wada said Atlus applied lessons learned from Persona 3 Reload to commit fully to a complete remake this time, rather than holding some content back for later.
A key reason for that shift is the character Marie, according to Wada. Because her storyline is deeply woven throughout Persona 4 Golden rather than confined to an epilogue, Atlus felt it couldn't be released separately the way Episode Aegis was. In the original Golden release, Marie's introduction was made deliberately obvious to signal her importance after being retroactively added to the story. For Persona 4 Revival, Wada said the team wants her to have a more natural, flowing entrance and to be present as a central character from the beginning, given her importance to the overall story. Fans have reportedly already spotted new scenes involving Marie in early looks at the remake. Atlus is also recasting the entire original English voice cast, after difficulties bringing back all original actors, and reworking some dialogue to sound more modern.
