The short version

Netflix added 39 new movies and shows on August 1, 2026, a date that typically brings a wave of classic library titles to the platform. Among the new arrivals are all seven of the original "Fast and Furious" films, several "Child's Play" movies, "Clueless," "Annie," "Selma," "Elysium," and "Zero Dark Thirty," among many others.

Tom's Guide highlighted five of the new additions as must-watches. "Clueless" (1995), loosely based on Jane Austen's Emma and starring Alicia Silverstone and Brittany Murphy, was recommended alongside news that a sequel series has been announced. "The Fast and the Furious" (2001), starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, was recommended as the strongest entry in the franchise, arriving in time for its 25th anniversary. "Nightcrawler" (2014), starring Jake Gyllenhaal as an unhinged freelance crime photographer, was called an underrated thriller and possibly Gyllenhaal's best performance. "Speed" (1994), starring Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, and Sandra Bullock, was praised as highly rewatchable. "Zero Dark Thirty" (2012), starring Jessica Chastain as a CIA analyst hunting Osama bin Laden, was noted for its strong ensemble cast including Mark Strong, Kyle Chandler, James Gandolfini, and Chris Pratt, and for typically not staying on the platform very long after arriving.

Separately, Netflix's Top 10 movies list for the U.S., as of Saturday, August 1, 2026, was topped by "72 Hours" (2026) for a second consecutive week, followed by "A Toxic Love Story," "Ordinary Angels," "Elize: Shadows of a Woman," and "A Quiet Place: Day One." The rest of the chart included "The Debt Collector," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "The Boss Baby," "The Truthers," and "A Private Life."

Of the films currently in the Top 10, Tom's Guide singled out three as worth watching. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside Michael Keaton and Robert Downey Jr., was praised for taking a John Hughes-style high school approach rather than repeating Spider-Man's familiar origin story. "A Quiet Place: Day One" (2024), starring Lupita Nyong'o as a hospice patient caught in an alien invasion of Manhattan alongside Alex Wolff, was credited with reviving interest in the franchise after a less inspired sequel. "Ordinary Angels" (2023), starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson and based on a true story about a Kentucky community rallying to help a family in need of a liver transplant for a young girl, was noted for holding a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Overall, Netflix's weekend content spans both freshly added classics and its current most-watched originals and licensed titles, giving subscribers a broad mix of new-to-platform films and already-popular chart-toppers to choose from.
