Dell introduced the 14S (model DS14270) at IFA, a 14-inch laptop positioned as an affordable alternative to the XPS 13, targeting students, young adults, and professionals. The laptop is offered in four colors: Linen (a light gold), Dusty Rose, Washed Denim (a light sky blue), and Velvet Green, described by PCWorld as an unusually vibrant hue for laptops. Dell's head of product, Matt McGowan, said color is central to the laptop's design, not just a finishing touch.

The device is built from aluminum, with Tom's Hardware reporting a weight of 2.65 pounds and thickness ranging from 0.48 to 0.58 inches. PCWorld listed a slightly different weight of 2.54 pounds. Both outlets confirm a 61.2 Wh battery, though Dell claims the 14S offers 'all-day' battery life, and Tom's Hardware reports a promised 21 hours of Netflix streaming with an optional upgraded battery cell.

Display options include a base 1920x1200 panel at 60Hz and 300 nits, and a higher-end 2880x1800 panel at 120Hz and 450 nits with 100 percent sRGB coverage, according to PCWorld. Tom's Hardware notes this higher-end display surpasses the XPS 13's screen, despite the 14S being positioned as the more budget-friendly option.

Both sources report a choice of Intel processors, though details differ slightly: PCWorld lists Core 5 320 and Core 7 350 options, while Tom's Hardware lists Core 5 350 and Core 7 350. Storage options go up to 1TB via PCIe NVMe SSD. Memory options are limited to 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, which both outlets confirm is soldered onboard and cannot be upgraded after purchase. PCWorld recommends buyers select the 16GB option if possible, given this limitation.

Tom's Hardware details additional specs not covered by PCWorld, including port options (two 10Gbps USB-C ports, HDMI 1.4, and a headphone jack), a 2MP webcam with optional Windows Hello IR support, and networking via Realtek Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.3 or MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.4—older standards compared to the XPS 13's Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Neither Dell nor the outlets have finalized pricing. McGowan said pricing would be announced closer to the laptop's fall 2026 launch and should be 'complimentary' to the XPS 13's pricing. PCWorld noted it does not yet know the cost or exact availability date.
