Square Enix showed a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during Gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live, presented by game director Naoki Hamaguchi. The trailer focused heavily on the game's Weapons — described in the game by Rufus Shinra as "towering monstrosities" — giving fans their first detailed looks at Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon (spelled Ultima, not Ultimate, as in the original 1997 game). Emerald Weapon had only appeared briefly in a cutscene during Rebirth, but the new footage suggests it will play a larger role in Revelation.

One of the biggest reveals was a real-time submarine combat sequence against Emerald Weapon. In the original game, the submarine was simply the vehicle used to reach the creature, with little direct combat aboard it; Revelation appears to expand that into an actual battle. Hamaguchi has previously said the main combat system would take place "at the base" of these major fights, suggesting players may eventually disembark to fight Emerald Weapon directly, though minigame elements could factor in earlier. According to Polygon, the Weapon battles include unique constraints, such as a 20-minute time limit on the Emerald Weapon fight unless the player has a certain materia equipped.

The trailer also showed brief combat glimpses of newly playable characters Cid and Vincent Valentine alongside Cloud's party. Vincent's voice actor, Matt Mercer, has said the series' battle system has been "perfected" for Revelation. Hamaguchi noted that designing Cid as a playable character was tricky, since in the original game he can come across as a jerk.

Beyond the Weapon fights, previously revealed features include the ability to freely pilot the Highwind airship across Revelation's open world and parachute out to the ground, along with a mix of returning locations from Remake and Rebirth and new areas such as Wutai. The Gold Saucer will return as a hub for the Queen's Blood card game. Hamaguchi has said the team did not alter its plans for the story based on player feedback, having had a clear vision for the trilogy from the start. Kotaku noted that the new trailer did not address lingering questions from Rebirth about alternate timelines, multiverse concepts, and the return of Zack Fair, calling the omission deliberate and ominous.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the finale of the remake trilogy that began in 2020, is set for release in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to Polygon. Kotaku also confirmed the spring 2027 window but noted that no firm release date has been announced.
