At PAX West 2026, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy game director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo held a panel covering new gameplay elements coming in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the remake trilogy. The panel closed with a presentation slide stating, "We hope you experience the climax as something that's not explained to you by someone else, but rather, as something that belongs to you."

Hamaguchi elaborated on this sentiment, saying that rather than having developers explain the answers, he hopes players will receive them as their own personal experience, built on the reunions, companion bonds, and resolve established throughout the trilogy. He said all of this leads to the third title's final moments, which he hopes players experience while carrying the journey and feelings they've built up along the way.

On the gameplay side, Endo detailed the battle system for Revelation, highlighting the addition of playable characters Cid and Vincent. Cid wields a magical lance capable of impaling multiple enemies and fights best in the air, while Vincent uses a gun for mid-range combat and can transform into the Galian Beast for melee attacks. Endo also introduced the new FITS system, which assigns combat-specialty traits—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—to characters, each altering their playstyle and outfit, though players can freely choose outfit skins independent of their FITS choice.

Regarding the story's direction, Hamaguchi has previously said he is confident and happy with how the ending turned out and is excited to see how fans react. He has also addressed how spin-off media like Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and Advent Children fit into the trilogy, saying that Advent Children has been incorporated into the overarching FFVII remake series, including the ending, though he declined to say whether the ending is positioned to lead into it.

Hamaguchi also described a broader goal of the trilogy: to pass Final Fantasy VII on to the next generation and expand the franchise's future beyond being a classic of the past, shaping it into an IP with an ever-evolving future. This has led to speculation, noted by Kotaku, that Revelation may not be the final Final Fantasy VII game.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set for release on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series S on April 8, 2027, according to Polygon.
