Square Enix used a Sony State of Play livestream to reveal that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, will release worldwide on April 8, 2027. Director Naoki Hamaguchi announced the date personally, and outlets note this will be the first game in the trilogy to launch simultaneously on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The story picks up with Cloud finally catching up to Sephiroth as the party tries to stop a meteor from destroying the planet, a crisis that has also awakened planetary defense mechanisms called Weapons, which pose their own threat to humanity. Square Enix showed roughly ten minutes of new gameplay footage, including the Highwind airship serving as a mobile base that lets players fly to different regions and parachute down to explore, including a segment set in Wutai where Yuffie could grapple onto rooftops. One outlet noted the transition wasn't fully seamless, with a cutscene bridging the jump from choosing a landing spot to parachuting in, though the overworld traversal was still described as impressive.

New systems detailed include the FITS system, which ties abilities to outfits in a manner compared to Final Fantasy X-2 and Lightning Returns, plus the ability to freely switch party members in the open world, which can change small story beats and interactions depending on who's in the lead. Some characters, including Red XIII, will get their own quest lines, with Red XIII's tied to a new saga in the Queen's Blood card game. A fast-forward option for cutscenes was also shown, though one outlet said watching a cutscene sped up was hard to follow. The full playable party will include Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. Hamaguchi has said the team's vision for the trilogy's ending hasn't changed based on player feedback, though it remains unclear whether the story will ultimately alter events from the original 1997 game, as the prior two entries have played with. Coverage also mentioned two story DLC expansions and a collector's edition priced at $350.

Square Enix confirmed Revelation will launch physically alongside its digital release on the same day, a decision framed as a promise to collectors given that Sony has set 2028 as a planned cutoff for physical PlayStation discs. However, a notable change from the previous two trilogy entries was also confirmed: the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S physical versions will ship on a single disc and require a mandatory download of additional data before the game can be played, whereas Remake and Rebirth shipped as multi-disc packages containing all necessary data upfront. The Switch 2 version will use a game-key card, consistent with prior releases in the series on that platform.

One outlet raised concerns about the trilogy's overall scale, noting that if Revelation matches the playtime of its predecessors, completing all three games without pursuing full completion could take around 150 hours combined, describing this as a substantial time investment for what began as a remake of a single game.

Separately, Square Enix also announced a playable demo for its upcoming HD-2D RPG Final Fantasy Resonance, available now at about 5GB in size. The demo covers the game's entire first chapter, amounting to roughly three to five hours of gameplay, and save data can be carried over into the full game when it launches next month. Though revealed during the PlayStation stream, the demo is also available on Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox.
